In 2024, I took a leap of faith and decided to become a hybrid author. While most of my books have been traditionally published, I wanted the flexibility and creative freedom that come with self-publishing.
I began by registering my own publishing imprint, Speed River Press. I reached out to graphic designer Jaycee DeLorenzo of Sweet ‘N Spicy Designs and asked her to create a logo. Thankfully, she ignored my vague (and often unhelpful) suggestions and came up with a design that was perfect from the start. A sign that I was on the right path.
Next came formatting. After a few tentative experiments with Kindle Create, I decided to invest in Atticus, a user-friendly formatting software that lives up to its reputation as “an author’s best friend.” It has made the process simple, at times even enjoyable.
I’m proud to announce the release of Hippie Mermaid, my first self-published work. The journey has been rewarding, reminding me that it’s never too late to learn something new.
